Spring Awakening

Written by Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik and adapted from Frank Wedekind’s play (1891) , Spring Awakening is a rock musical that explores the complex nature of adolescence, highlighting themes such as the struggle for self identity, the transitions from youth to adulthood, and the consequences of repression, ignorance, and blind conformity.

During her time as creative director on one of her all-time favorite shows, Roselle worked closely with her cast (13-18 y/o) at Musical Mayhem Productions to make sure this beloved and important story was told right. She collaborated with music director, Vivian McLaughlin, as well as intimacy coordinator, Allie Lian, to create a safe space for the cast to grow as artists and performers through the worlds of punk-rock, learning about the intricacies of intimacy choreography, and having conversations about the explicit yet ever-relevant themes of the show.

one day all will know.
